Some people define the "photographer's eye" as being an ability to spot the beauty in the world around us. But for others, it's a whirling list of questions beginning with "why?" since only a photographer would see a red letter box and think it worthy of being the subject of a photograph.
The "GR" marking is for King George V (1910-1936) and the writing on the base shows that it was made by McDowell Steven & Co. of London and Glasgow.
