Fireworks

08/11/2009

Until today, I’d never used a tripod to take photographs of fireworks. This meant that when the shutter was open to let light into the camera, the light wasn’t passing into the viewfinder, so I often missed seeing the actual fireworks. So I decided to use a tripod at the fireworks display organised by the Royal Tunbridge Wells Round Table at Dunorlan Park in Tunbridge Wells. It meant that I could take photographs and watch the display at the same time.

By chance, I’ve included people in the bottom-left corner and trees in the bottom-right, and both have been lit by the bright fireworks. I used the ‘bulb’ setting to control the exposure time, and although it might look like a long exposure, it was only one second.

I submitted the photograph for Photo Friday‘s 18 December 2009 theme of Best of 2009.
