Going up

There are many rules of photography which you can either follow or break depending on the effect you’re after.

One rule is to place the main subject on a third. If you imagine the photograph is divided into nine equal segments, the lines between them will be the best place to put the subject. Another one that is that the main point of interest should be in focus.

However, in this photograph, taken on a moving escalator at London Bridge station, nothing is in focus, and the main subject is on the left edge, far away from an aesthetically-pleasing third. It wasn’t deliberate, and it certainly wasn’t the photograph I was aiming for, but I am pleased with the result.
